The first release of two beers brewed for our 5th anniversary using the parti-gyle method, Coalspur offers the deep, elegant flavours of an imperial stout with the quaffability of a table stout. Rich touches of bittersweet chocolate and dark roasted espresso are counterbalanced by lactose, which brings a creamy mouthfeel and slight sweetness.
More than just a sweet stout, Coalspur was once the hub for the area’s coal, fueling the competing rail lines west over the Rocky Mountains. A sharp bend in the road marks the location today, but a vigilant eye can see traces of a mining town that would thrive until the end of the steam engine.
